Workplace environments comprise of teams representing a variety of backgrounds, including education, culture, profession, and generation. We are committed to helping leaders strengthen their foundation and teams, enhancing capabilities without exhausting resources and ensuring everyone stays aligned with their purpose.
START-UP COACH
A newly developed business should launch strong, and existing businesses should always be open to pushing the refresh button, also known as transformation. Far too often, start-up leaders who are specialized in their profession, for example in the STEM fields, are experts in their science and area of study, yet often need help with the business side of running a start-up. STEM leaders are not customarily trained in business and organizational effectiveness.
It is common for start-up leaders to focus their business metrics on these three main capitals, which are directly related to innovation: Intellectual, Financial, and Manufactured. However, there are additional capitals that connect the sustainability of the business's operations to the organization's mission, two of them are Human Capital, and Social & Relational Capital. A business can customize its capital reporting to align with its business focus.
We recommend combining a scaled capital metrics framework, such as Integrated Reporting, with a proven strategic performance management framework that extends beyond financial performance, for example, the Balanced Scorecard. The Balanced Scorecard was developed in the 1990s by Professors Robert Kaplan and David Norton at the Harvard Business School (HBS). It is a great tool that can help leaders track and measure non-financial variables. Over half of the major companies in the U.S., Europe, and Asia have adopted the Balanced Scorecard. HBS today emphasizes that when crafting a business strategy, leaders must give as much weight to intangibles as to financial goals.
